Florida drivers are being warned about a new SunPass phishing scam. It’s spreading through text messages.
The message looks like it’s from SunPass, Florida’s electronic toll system. It warns about unpaid tolls.
It tells you to pay by Jan. 21, 2025, to avoid late fees and legal trouble. The message says:
“Please pay your toll in Florida by January 21, 2025. In order to avoid excessive late fees and legal action on statements, please pay the tolls in time. Thank you for your cooperation and wish you a pleasant holiday.“
A link is given in the text to pay the tolls. But, if you get this text, don’t click the link. It’s a scam trying to steal your info or money.
SunPass doesn’t send texts asking for immediate payment. If you’re worried about your toll account, check the official SunPass website or call their customer service.
Don’t trust links from texts or emails. If you get this message, don’t click on any links or give out personal info.
Instead, send the suspicious message to your carrier or email provider. Also, report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission or Florida’s Attorney General.
To check your SunPass account, log in directly to your account at SunPass or call their customer service.
Be careful and know that scammers try to rush you. They threaten legal action and use fake links. Always check if a message is real before acting.
By being careful, you can avoid falling for scams. Stay alert and protect yourself.
