On Tuesday, a tragic shooting occurred at the Risbergska School in Örebro, central Sweden, resulting in at least five injuries. The suspected perpetrator is believed to be among those injured.
The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. local time at the Risbergska School, an adult education center located on a campus that also houses other educational institutions. Emergency services, including ambulances and police units, responded swiftly to the scene.
According to Jonas Claesson, the regional healthcare director, five individuals have been transported to the local university hospital. Four of them have undergone surgery, with two now in stable condition, while one person remains seriously wounded.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area and remain indoors as the situation is still active. Students from nearby schools are being evacuated as a precaution. Sweden’s Justice Minister, Gunnar Strömmer, described the police operation as “in full swing” and stated that the government is closely monitoring developments.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and loud screams during the incident. One individual, Andreas Sundling, 28, recounted, “We heard three bangs and loud screams. Now we’re sitting here waiting to be evacuated from the school. The information we have received is that we should sit and wait.”
The Risbergska School offers courses at both primary and upper secondary levels for students aged 20 and over, including classes for immigrants and vocational training.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and ensure the safety of the community.
